La Boite on TV!

Press Release

There's a new kid hitching a trailer cafe at the 1700 block of South Lamar, and this one is a delightful mixture of crunchy, clever, and Euro-cool

  • Crunchy, because the cafe is all about eco-consciousness.

  • Clever, because the cafe is constructed from a recycled shipping container.

  • And Euro-cool, because the cafe has adopted the European approach of serving primarily local products.

So what is this boat box turned bistro called?

Simply ... La Boite; The Box

Victoria Davies and Dan Berezcki conceived La Boite Cafe because they wanted to create a place where simple, high quality selections of pastries and sandwiches could be served to morning business commuters and afternoon lunchtime crowds. Where outstanding products could be drawn from local talents and sustainable resources. All complimented with great tea and coffee made with the same level of care as the foods they serve.

'Doing a few things and doing them well is something that we learned time and again in our careers.' says Dan Bereczki. "¥What was important to us was to take the fundamental principles we try to implement in our personal lives and bring them to the box. While we'd love to offer foods from far and wide, we think that our local resources provide a surprising number of high quality products which stand head-to-head with many of the finest out there. We're lucky to live in such a talented corner of the world!'

The owners worked with Owl Tree Coffee to create a distinct blend which is not only top-notch quality, but is also environmentally sensitive; thus keeping their carbon footprint low, but without sacrificing all-important quality and flavor.

La Boite is an outdoor cafe with ample seating. Patrons will walk into the 'box' to place their orders and can then either take away their purchases, or sit outside and perhaps contemplate the shipping container and all of its infinite possibilities: Where might the box have been during its heyday at sea? What fascinating items did it carry within the confines of its walls? And how did it end up in Austin; a crunchy, cool, clever and decidedly hip box in the middle of a sea of Airstream trailers?

The answer is simple - because Victoria Davies and Dan Bereczki decided they wanted to hitch it here. And there is a first time for everything.

And so La Boite is born. Serving coffee, pastries and a selection of sandwiches 7 days a week from 7:30 to 4:30 weekdays and 9 to 5 on the weekend.

La Boite Cafe is located at 1700 South Lamar Blvd.
